Description
This is a very nice relic from World War II. It is a fully crisp, never used
"Fifty Cents"
note that was issued in 1942 by the then Japanese held,
"British"
Malaya. What used to be called
"Malaya"
began to come under British control in the 1800's. It became one of the richest areas of the
"Empire"
because of the rubber and tin it produced.
The Japanese moved against Malaya the same day they bombed Pearl Harbor. The British sent the Battleships
"Prince of Wales"
and the
"Repulse"
. They were both sunk and when the British surrendered at Singapore in February of 1942, the area came under Japanese control until the war ended in 1945. While they were in power this money circulated. It is now the nation of Malaysia.
