Honda celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1998 and the challenge was how do you incorporate history into the launch of new products. As the copywriter for American Honda's ad agency I chose to harken back to the accomplishments of the great rider Mike Hailwood.
The problem is its hard to link the two especially over a cover, then onto the spread behind it. But this is the result for the CBR900RR and the CBR600F3.
This is a special type of advertisement we used to love writing back in the day. It features a teaser one page, like a cover, which sets up an idea. Then you turn the page and the spread answers the teaser.
These looked great in the magazine, but they were always difficult to preserve in a way that sets them off to full advantage.
In this case, it's a laminated first page,  and a laminated spread. The two components are separate and not joined together.
This is an ad agency official press proof which is much better than just ripping pages out of vintage magazine. It's on better stock and there's no center seam in the spread.
However these pages are laminated which may be a detriment if you want to frame this ad for any reason.
