A well-respected designer, particularly in the fashion world, Paul Smith opened his first shop in 1970 after giving up his ambition to be a professional cyclist and learning tailoring in evening classes. He now has over 300 shops all around the world, and his 'classics with a twist' take on British style has become a cult favorite in Japan. Along with clothing, Paul Smith has designed an Anglepoise lamp, a bespoke Land Rover Defender, and a special edition 'Protone' cycling helmet for Kask. There have been two exhibitions of his work at the London Design Museum, and he was knighted in the year 2000 for his services to British fashion.
But the most important thing about Sir Paul Smith, as far as we're concerned, is his ongoing collaboration with Caran d'Ache and the 849 pen.
The 849 is a design classic, and it's fitting that a classic designer should put his stamp on this, the Paul Smith Limited Edition. The slim, aluminium ballpoint with its iconic pocket clip and hexagonal barrel features the designer's well-known 'Artist Stripes' motif as well as his signature, and is presented in an ultra-thin, 3D-sculpted tin.
Fitted with a medium blue Goliath refill and proudly made in Switzerland.
